TEMPLAR – ‘Knights of’
Vermont Champlain Marble
As Artist in Residence at the Carving Studio and Sculpture Center in West Rutland, Vermont, I decided to carve a block of Vermont Champlain Marble, as I had never carved it before. I ended up designing a cross shape on this block, and wanted to have sweeping concavities for each quadrant. As I did not have the measuring tools from my own studio, I pierced the block in one spot when taking the stone too thin. The only solution, then, was to alter my design and pierce the piece in seven more places.
